Meeting Safety Legislation - what you, the customer, needs to know

It is against the law in the UK to install a power operated garage door, or install power operation on a garage door, without complying with the Machinery Directive. To comply with this legislation, both the door and the operator used in the installation must be supplied with a declaration of incorporation from the manufacturer.

On completion of the installation, the installer must:

  • Give the customer a declaration of conformity
  • Hold copies of both the declarations of incorporation and conformity in a technical file which he holds for inspection by the relevant authorities if required in the future

    Important note:
if any of the above requirements are not fulfilled, then the installation is illegal. Download an information sheet here for further guidance.

Please ensure for your own safety and peace of mind that your installer is both willing and able to fulfill these requirements; if they are not - we advise you not to buy from them.
