Garage door training - overview of course

DHF offer two types of courses for thoses working with in industrial & garage doors:

Level 2 Awards in Safety for installation & maintenance engineers (1-day)

Level 2 Award in Safety and Level 4 Award in Legislation for managers (2-days)

The Level 2 Award in Safety provides delegates with a greater understanding of legislation affecting the safe design, supply, installation, maintenance, and repair of domestic garage doors.

It covers the following garage door installation activities:

  • Automating an existing manual door by adding a drive unit;
  • Installing a new manual door supplied from one manufacturer;
  • Installing a new powered door supplied from one manufacturer (i.e. door and drive from the same manufacturer);
  • Installing a new powered door where the door and drive are sourced from different manufacturers.

Please note that more complex activities, such as modifying standard products during installation in ways not covered by the manufacturer’s instructions or obtaining components from multiple suppliers to create a new door, are not covered.  For these, please see the industrial door course.

The Level 4 Award in Legislation which is conducted over 2 days, is intended for managers and persons responsible for legal compliance within their organisation, with influence to change legal compliance processes. It is for those who must compile O&M manuals and instruction & technical files, and those who exercise general supervision over installation and maintenance operatives and engineers.

This course will provide delegates with a greater understanding of legislation affecting the supply, installation, inspection, risk assessment, maintenance, and repair of automated gates, traffic barriers, industrial doors and garage doors. The course also focuses on technical safety procedures, covering all aspects of gate & roller shutter doors door safety, from initial risk assessment through to force testing. It will ensure that installers and managers are fully conversant with all relevant safety regulations, can prepare a technical file and can issue a Declaration of Conformity.
