What is an EPD?

/media/product_groups_pages/library/epd4.jpgAn EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration) is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products.

Having an EPD® for a product does not imply that the declared product is environmentally superior to alternatives — it is simply a transparent declaration of the life-cycle environmental impact. It reveals the LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) of each product and how sustainable that product is.

What about the ®?

The EPD® logotype and the acronym EPD® are registered trademarks within the European Union and use of them within the EU is therefore only allowed for certified EPD within the International EPD® System.

dhf is represented in Europe and is actively involved with ARGE (English translation - The European Federation of Associations of Lock and Builders’ Hardware Manufacturers). Through ARGE, dhf offers the opportunity for its members to have an EPD on their products. The ARGE website is full of information about EPD and has a FAQ section related to EPD. http://arge.org/

An EPD® may be used for many different applications, including green public procurement (GPP) and building assessment schemes. ARGE EPD have been written to comply with the format required by EN 15804.
