DHF announces new safety & compliance course

Owners and managers

Tamworth-based trade association, the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF), has announced the launch of a new awareness course.  This course is specifically designed for local authorities, housing associations, facilities maintenance companies, and other owners and managers of industrial doors, garage doors, automated gates, and barriers in commercial settings.

The main objective of the short awareness course is to educate participants about their legal obligations when it comes to the repair and maintenance of these systems on commercial properties.  It emphasises the importance of regular maintenance by trained professionals and highlights the legal consequences of neglecting these obligations.

“Delegates will learn to be aware of the numerous legal obligations for owners, and managers, and those commissioning repair and maintenance companies; in addition, they will gain a greater understanding of the role of standards in compliance with the law, a greater awareness of how incidents are investigated, how to stay within the law, what safety looks like, and how non-compliance is managed in a maintenance environment,” explains DHF’s Commercial Director, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens.

Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance from the Certification of Professional Development Scheme, which contains two hours of CPD.  Additionally, learners will be provided with a copy of TS 013-3: 2021 Code of Practice for Automated Gates, Traffic Barriers, Industrial & Garage Doors, specifically Part 3, which offers guidance for owners and managers.

The course will be delivered either through a virtual classroom via Teams or in-person at a venue of choice.  The first course is scheduled for Friday, 21st June, and the cost per attendee is £50 plus VAT.

This course, which aims to reach commercial property owners, will instil confidence in participants regarding the safety of their industrial doors, garage doors, and automated gates and barriers.  By equipping them with the necessary knowledge and understanding of legal obligations and maintenance practices, DHF hopes to promote a safer environment for all.

Since launching its first training course in September 2013, DHF has assisted 5,547 candidates in successfully completing a DHF training course with the federation renowned for its pursuit of excellence in this area and its commitment to education.  In September 2018, DHF moved to new premises and now delivers classroom courses from its fully equipped training academy, as well as online courses.

“Educating the industry has always been at the heart of DHF – it’s our raison d'être if you like, and we continue to offer a first-class service – both online and face-to-face - to those who wish to learn and develop.  We remain committed to delivering training that enables safe and compliant products to be put on the market,” concludes Patricia.
