Build your future workforce with a specialist apprenticeship for the Door, Gate & Shutter sectordhf, in partnership with Train’d Up, has developed a funded apprenticeship programme specifically for the Door, Gate & Shutter sector.
The programme gives dhf members the opportunity to recruit, train and retain skilled engineers, incorporating the recognised NOCN Level 2 NVQ Diploma PLUS an Ofqual-regulated dhf Level 2 Safety Award. It combines live online learning, practical workplace development and regular assessor support.

Through the funding and additional support available, dhf members can save up to £11,300 for every apprentice enrolled on the programme.
Funding is subject to employer eligibility and the availability of apprenticeship levy funds.

For dhf members, the programme provides an opportunity to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled engineers while supporting long-term workforce development.
Benefits include:
Gain nationally recognised qualifications
Access government-funded apprenticeship and NVQ training
Develop the next generation of engineers
Future-proof your workforce
Improve employee retention
Maintain industry-recognised competence standards
Reduce recruitment costs
How the programme supports your businessLevy-paying employers can use available levy funds to pay for apprenticeship training and End Point Assessment.
For eligible non-levy employers, the Government typically funds 95% of apprenticeship training costs, with the employer responsible for 5% co-investment.
dhf members also benefit from additional support, including funding for the NOCN Level 2 NVQ Diploma, providing an occupational competence assessment through Train’d Up, and specialist dhf sector training.
Apprentices complete one day per week of live online learning with specialist engineering tutors, alongside practical workplace development.
Online learning covers engineering health and safety, mathematics, science, maintenance principles, IT systems and engineering working practices.
Practical skills are developed and assessed within the workplace with support from a dedicated Train’d Up Engineering Assessor.
Workplace visits take place every 8-10 weeks and include:
Formal reviews take place every 12 weeks between the apprentice, employer and assessor. These reviews keep employers informed of progress, skills development and agreed next steps.
Apprentices will have access to membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), a leading UK professional engineering body.
IMechE membership supports professional development by providing access to networking opportunities, career development and industry resources. IMechE is also licensed to assess engineers for professional registration, including EngTech, IEng and CEng.
