The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) is pleased to inform you that the publication of the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) competence framework for Doors, Gates and Shutters is now available via the Completed Installer Frameworks section on the CLC Competence webpage.
Developed over an 18-month period in partnership with the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) and under the umbrella of Sector Lead Group 10 (SLG10), DHF played a leading role in producing the framework. The work carried out by Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens and Ken Price was facilitated by CITB and supported by industry consultation, with contributions from DHF’s Steve Hill. As a result, the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for these sectors has been reviewed by the industry to reflect current competence requirements.
The framework outlines the strategy, SKEB (Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours) matrix, route to competence, and implementation plan. It supports alignment with the Building Safety Act 2022 and the Building Regulations etc. (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2023, and is applicable across installation, maintenance, servicing, and associated roles.
What does it mean for DHF members?
Demonstrating individual competence is essential, particularly as major organisations, such as Amazon and London Heathrow Airport, increasingly require evidence such as valid CSCS cards, whether for initial installation or ongoing maintenance and repair.
While fire-related elements remain under development, this initial publication offers essential guidance for the sector.
